Technology Fair

Technology is no longer the future of education. It has become an important part of today's education. Students need to have a well-rounded twenty-first century education which means providing them with access to twenty-first century tools and techniques. Technology Fairs help showcase what our students can do with today's technology tools. Technology Fairs are also a way for schools across APS to share their visions and achievements with each other and the community.

The Technology Fair is very similar to a science fair. Students complete special projects which have a strong emphasis on technology and then gather to share what they have learned and how they created their projects.

The 2015-2016 AEA Technology Fair will take place on Saturday, May 21, 2015 from 9:30am-12:00pm. The PLCC is hosting this year.

Guidelines for 2015-2016

*Each school can submit 10 student project entries for the 2016 StudentTechnology Fair.

*Each school site will determine which ten projects to submit for this year's fair.

*School sponsor or participating students must complete the Online Registration Form by March 31, 2016. (Notification of acceptance will be sent out by April 7th at the latest.)

*All projects (except Robotics) and their accompanying Student Technology Fair Notebook (available on the Rules page) MUST be submitted to Shannon Wentworth at Sixth Avenue Elementary via email or inner school mail by April 15, 2016 to be considered for prizes and judging.

*All project categories (except Robotics) will be judged prior to the Fair on May 21, 2016 by a panel of judges.

*Every school in APS is eligible to participate, including charters.

*The seven competition categories are open to students in grades 3-12.

*Classroom Entries are NOT part of the 10 student project entries per school and are open to ALL grade levels and subject.

Welcome to the new AEA Technology Integration Caucus Wiki. Here you will find information about upcoming trainings, seminars, meetings, and more.

Wide-scale technology professional development is not currently available to teachers in Aurora Public Schools.The Technology Caucus plans to improve student achievement by creating a Technology Institute.The Technology Institute will provide teachers with the professional development they need on using technologies that already exist in their classrooms and those that may appear soon.Deepening teacher understanding of technology integration will increase their ability to provide relevant, modern instruction to their students which will increase student achievement.

Specifically, the Technology Caucus will offer monthly online seminars and a summer in-person technology boot camp that will introduce teachers to the National Education Technology Standards (NETS) for teachers from ISTE.The summer boot camp will entail an intensive 5-day program for which teachers will receive 3 credit hours of relicensure or salary advancement credit.Hands-on training opportunities and guest speakers will deepen teachers’ understanding of 21st century learning environments.Teachers will have an opportunity to use available technologies to build their competence in applying real world applications which will increase student engagement and thus increase student achievement.

Monthly one or two hour seminars will focus on a variety of topics.Participation in all fifteen hours of online training will give teachers an opportunity to receive one full credit of relicensure or salary advancement credit.

The Technology Caucus will provide instruction on modern copyright laws, research tools, and publishing options.Teachers will also be coached on using technologies such as classroom response systems as a means for creating and administering formative and summative assessments.The ability to quickly assess students and gather data will allow teachers to develop lesson that are based on individual student needs.

A Technology Caucus wiki will be created for participating teachers to leave feedback about the professional development they receive.The wiki will also be a forum for teachers to post questions, ask for help with challenges they encounter, and share the successes they achieve.

Participants in Technology Caucus trainings and online courses will be asked to complete a survey which will include questions about the impact increased technology has had on their classroom routines and student achievement.Members of the Technology Caucus will review survey results at their quarterly meetings to discuss further professional development needs.

The success of Technology Institute trainings will result in the empowerment of participating teachers to employ more technology usage in their classrooms.It will also create in increased amount of teacher collaboration across grades and schools.The Technology Institute will encourage participating teachers to share what they learned with others in their schools and persuade other teachers to participate in the training opportunities.

Teachers who participate in Technology Caucus trainings through the course of the year will be sent a special questionnaire at the end of the school year.This questionnaire will ask teachers to report out on their technology use during the entire school year.They will also be asked about the impact technology had on student engagement, achievement, and test scores.

The success of the Technology Caucus should show the school district how important technology-based professional development is to the success of students and schools. The end result should be an increase in the amount of district sponsored training opportunities and the hiring of more site-based technology staff.
